Once again, Show & Tell was a display of eye candy and inspiration. We sure have some talented quilters.

Instead of having a speaker or presentation this month, we played three games of Quilto. Quilto is a quilting version of Bingo and instead of numbers, it uses quilting words and phrases. Each member who wanted to participate was asked to bring three fat quarters and deposit one fat quarter in each of three receptacles. Participation was great. The receptacles were full of beautiful fabric. Each player serious and intent with hopes of being one of the winners. You can never have enough fabric right? Below are three happy three winners with their new stash. Congratulations ladies! More Quilto pictures... Fiber Artist Linda Schmidt was our guest speaker. She showed many different methods to embellish quilts. Many times the back of the quilt was as interesting as the front! For more on Linda's background on her fabulous quilts, visit her website at: www.shortattentionspanquilting.com/ The slide show below features members' quilts from this month's Show & Tell. All wonderful as usual. Member Margaret Taffi posted a thought on June 4th under the April 2015 Meeting entry. I thought it was important and I reposted it here so it wouldn't get lost. Here is Margaret's post:
Margaret Taffi said: I read where we are playing Quilto for the July meeting! I'd love to see a vote on how many folks really asked for this. Its ok for a special meeting but not a regular one. There must be something more productive than this. Love the meetings and have not missed one since I joined but that may start happening! What has happened to the life of the guild and the fun? Here was my reply to Margaret: While I can’t speak on behalf of the guild’s decision makers, I do believe they try and do their very best to accommodate the needs of membership. I do know they have been trying very hard to get feedback from members so then can provide what members want and expect from the guild. I agree with you that although Quilto can be a fun activity on occasion there surely are other fun activities and lessons that are sure to satisfy our mutual quilty cravings. We have a tremendous amount of talented members. My hope is that they will not be bashful and come forth when asked or just come forth on their own to share their knowledge on those few occasions we don’t have a quest speaker. It would also be great if they would do the same for Skills Day. The guild needs more input from members; I’m so glad you shared your thoughts Margaret. I’ll be sure to pass it on to the powers at be. I hope you don’t get too discouraged. Hang in there and don’t stop coming to the meetings. I’ll miss your smiling face! Okay, I have a little question not just for you but for the entire guild…. Who or what would you like to personally see at an upcoming meeting? Could be a public figure or one of our very own members. Post your comments to the blog and I’ll pass them on. Connie Cracraft Website & Blog Editor Our guild makes and donates baby quilts for all babies born at St. Helena Hospital Clearlake. We received a wonderful thank you note from one our recipients. What a wonderful surprise for our members! Claire Witherspoon was our guest speaker. She shared over 20 years of experience where she took many classes and incorporated the new found skills into her quilts. The following day she held a workshop: "Scrap Therapy". Once again, our talented members shared their creative projects and beautiful quilts during Show & Tell. Sherry Werum presented her lecture “Four Score and Seven Years, Quilting 1776-1863”. This covered quilting from the Revolutionary War to the Civil War. We were privileged to see this rich 87 year history of quilting in America portrayed. Sherry's husband accompanied her during the lecture and entertained us with his musical talents. Following Sherry's presentation, guild members shared their latest quilt projects during Show & Tell. On Valentine's Day we welcomed quilter Sandra Bruce who shared her quilting journey. Sandra's work is amazing. The following day Sandra taught her technique "Material Matrix". Show and Tell followed Sandra Bruce's lecture. |
Hello! Our active guild is filled with talented quilters who love to share their love of quilting. This is the place to see and share what we are up to. Archives
