Pats Fried's lecture is “Modern Traditionalist” and the workshop is “Tweaking Tradition.”
In April I discovered that many of our members don’t know the difference between a modern quilt, art quilt, or traditional. Our August speaker, Pati Fried clearly does, as a traditional modern quilter, Pati is an amazing high energy person who has bridged the gap between EBHQ (East Bay Heritage Quilters in Albany) and the Modern Quilt Guild in Oakland. Pati’s presentation will be about the transition from traditional to modern. The workshop will take you through the process of creating traditional blocks and making them modern.
If you want to learn more about Pati check out her blog http://patifried.com/blog. And her quilt group https://seehowwesew.wordpress.com . We are in for a real treat.

Modern Traditionalist Workshop by Pati Fried
This class is a workshop. It will focus on exploring design possibilities for future quilt projects. We will be designing blocks to fit 3 different design categories - traditional, contemporary and modern settings. Bring a selection of fabrics that will give you opportunity to play in each of these styles. I have listed suggestions below, but I urge you to use what you love – you will enjoy the process more!
I urge you to bring a book, magazine or picture of a design that inspires you. Inspirational sources will help you in your exploration.
(Scraps, eighth or quarter yards or fat quarters will do)
Basic Sewing Supplies:
Sewing machine, rotary cutter, mat, cutting ruler and thread.
Also, they could link to the blog post that started this workshop, if interested.
Bring Lunch. Doors open at 9:30.
We are a group of quilters, quilt lovers, sewers, "wannabe" quilters, needle artists and any others who just want to be attached to the world of quilts. We all love fabric and thread. We thrive on the companionship and get inspired by one another. We enjoy giving, receiving, and sharing in each others knowledge and expertise.
