Opportunity Quilt
|
Our Opportunity Quilt! LLQG makes a quilt every year to be raffled as a fund-raiser. The quilt is made by a group of members on a committee. Our first quilt was made in 200l and we have volunteers to make quilts each year. The current quilt travels to other guild meetings, quilt shops, local festivals and even Farmer's Markets. Opportunity Quilt 2011 (picture may take a few moments to load.)
The design we used is an adaptation of the traditional Lemoyne star pattern. Sharyn Craig www.sharyncraig.com published a booklet (long out of print) and all the projects in it are based on the Lemoyne Star; we simply enlarged one of her wall hangings (with her gracious permission). The 32-page booklet "Lemoyne Stars Made Easy" by Sharyn Squire Craig was published in 1998 by Chitra Publications (2 Public Avenue; Montrose, Pennsylvania 18801). Ten of our guild members got together in May and decided on a design based on a wall hanging in a book listed above. I called Sharyn Craig and got her permission to use her design in a large quilt, explained the purpose, etc, and she readily agreed. I sent her photos in progress and she was thrilled. Upon completion, I sent a final photo and asked her permission for all the displays (our quilt show, PIQF, other venues, etc) and she affirmed her agreement. Each of the ten members were responsible for 2 large blocks and 3 cornerstone blocks...in the color of her choice, though could use a variety of prints. A group of 4 of us assembled the blocks and made/attached the sashing. Yet another member did the quilting on her long arm machine. Two of the original ten love appliqué, so they did the vine in the border, and another of the ten says binding is her favorite part, so she did that for us. It has truly been a joint effort, and we all wish it much success.
