About LLQG
Ladies of the Lake
Quilt Guild was formed May 18, 2001 in Kelseyville, California, through
the vision and efforts of Founder, Shelley Aldrich.
"Our purpose, as a Guild, is to
contribute to the knowledge of Quilting, to promote the appreciation of
fine quilts, to encourage quilt making and collecting, and to contribute
to the growth and knowledge of quilt techniques, textiles, patterns,
history, and quilt making through education meetings, and fellowships."
Monthly General meetings are called to
order usually on the first Saturday of the month at 10:00 am at the
Scott Valley Women's Club, 2298 Hendricks Road, Lakeport, CA To
facilitate member inter-action, each member is asked to fashion and wear
a handcrafted name tag to GUILD meetings.
The central activity
(Program)
of the meeting may be a guest
speaker, member conducted workshops, technique demonstrations, slides,
movies, or pot luck buffets.
In addition to the central activity, each
meeting's agenda includes:
Blocks of the Month are completed from a
featured Guild block pattern. Participants enter a completed block in a
drawing, with the winner's taking home all blocks turned in.
A lending Library containing quilting books,
magazines, and patterns is available for member use. Items are
checked in and/or returned during the course of the meeting.
Participation in the Secret Pal Program is a
way for members to make a Special friend. Names are drawn a the beginning
of the Guild year. throughout the year, we remember our Secret Pal with
cards, gifts, etc. At the next May meeting, we reveal ourselves to our Secret
Pal.
A favorite agenda item of most members is
Show and Tell, where interesting stories,
beautiful handmade items and other items of interest are shared. Sometimes
a "theme" is used.
The Treasure Chest is a very popular feature
of our meetings. There will be several new and different quilt
related prizes each month. Tickets for the opportunity to participate in
the drawings are available to all members and guests.
Participation in the
Challenge
Project
can be very challenging! The GUILD sponsors the challenge to its members,
setting the rules, choosing the fabric (s), pattern, theme, or whatever?
Projects are a secret until due. It's interesting to participate and see
the many different styles and ideas!
In addition to our regular meeting, also
available is
Discovery Day! In is an informal
meeting to work on community projects, share ideas, learn new techniques,
encourage each other and help solve problems. It is a day to share
something new and exciting with quilting friends.
Community Involvement.....
The GUILD participates in
community activities
which include making and donating about 200 baby
quilts each year to Redbud Hospital. Each baby born at Redbud Community Hospital
receives a hand-made quilt made by our members. All members are encouraged to
make at least 3 quilts per year. We also have
ADOPTED A HIGHWAY!
AND MORE...
We feature an annual
"Falling Leaves" Quilt Show"
the first weekend in October at the Lake County Fairgrounds. This is a
judged, open entry show of 200 plus beautiful quilts, vendors, door prizes, and
a country store. All members are encouraged to work at least two hours during
the quilt show and to sell at least 20 tickets on the opportunity quilt. A
drawing for the Guild's handmade Opportunity Quilt is held in the afternoon of
the show's second day.
Each member receives our monthly newsletter,
Sew and Tell. The newsletter contains articles on future Guild programs and
activities, chairmen reports, and items of interest.
