Program: Sandy Turner - SIMPLE STEPS TO SENSATIONAL
BORDERS
I'm very excited to be able to tell you that Sandy Turner
will be our speaker on January 9th and she will be
conducting a workshop on Sunday, January 10th. On Saturday
she'll be talking to us about how to finish up our quilts
with sensational borders. Sandy was named Teacher of
the Year in 2004 by the National Quilt Association. She
founded the Santa Maria Valley Quilt Guild in 1991 and
teaches at Asilimar at the Empty Spools Conference. She was
their artist in residence in 2000. You can learn more about

"BIRD IN THE AIR"

Her workshop will teach us how to make her “Birds in the

Program: Helen Hardwick - "Minis"
In February, Helen Hardwick, one of our judges for the
2009 Falling Leaves Quilt Show, will be talking about her
technique for making miniature quilts. We have a lot of new
members for whom this lecture will be interesting and
instructive as well as offering a different approach for
more experienced quilters. There is no workshop in February.

Texture Magic by Sharon Shute
In July, we‘re having a
presentation by Sharon Shute on Texture Magic. (I
personally think of it as Shrinky-Dink for fabric, but
maybe I‘m giving my age away.) Sharon will be showing us
some of the terrific ways that you can use this, and you
will be given an opportunity to get close and see what
it does. Also, because of how much we‘ve grown, I‘ll be
asking you to participate in an activity that will give
me a better idea of what your interests and needs are
for the coming year.

Scarlett Rose
"Celtic Appliqué" - Lecture and Trunk Show
In August, Scarlett Rose will
be sharing with us her love of Celtic appliqué. We‘ll
see many of her stunning quilts and she will also share
some history about Celtic art and designs and how she
draws and adapts her Celtic knot work. This should be
quite a program. Scarlett has been involved with
quilting since 1976 and with teaching since 1986 and has
had 2 books published on Celtic quilting. She has also
had several articles published in quilting and appliqué
magazines. It Should be a program to re-member.

Program: It’s Party
Time...
The December meeting is our annual
Christmas
party and gift exchange.
Everyone
who would like to participate in the gift exchange needs
to bring one yard of good quality fabric
(wrapped) AND a useless item (wrapped). Place
these two gifts in a grocery style brown paper bag. Mark
your bag somehow maybe with a colored bow or some other
decoration, so you know it is your bag. (That way, you won't
pick your own!)
The
gift exchange is anonymous-no need to sign your name.
What's a party without food? If you didn't get a chance to
sign up for an item to bring to the potluck, please feel
free to bring anything you'd like. If you have any
questions, please contact our Hospitality Chairmen.
