Opportunity Quilt 2006-2007

THE FLOWERING OF  OUR NATION

Mary Jane Steinhilpert was inspired to create our spectacular Opportunity Quilt after she began collecting fabrics that pictured the  flowers of the fifty states. She chose a commercial pattern designed by  Patti Carey which featured the State Flower Collection by Northcott  Fabrics. Each state's shape and name are the central feature of the hexagonal floral background. The stars formed by the placement of the blocks add an interesting secondary pattern.

Mary Jane was assisted by: Pam Hendricks, Donna James, and Jane Alameda. Mary Jane's husband made the acrylic templates and a specialized surface for rotary cutting the hexagons.

The quilting was done by Shelley Aldrich, the founder of our guild, who is also a professional quilter.

The quilt measures 88" by 106".

The drawing was held at our Quilt Show, October 7th, 2007.

The winner of this quilt is Pat Dandy. She was very excited and pleased to be the winner.
